Without aerobraking, from an eve intercept, you’d enter an elliptical orbit, then a Low Eve Orbit, you’d lower your periapsis from ~100km, which is Low Eve Orbit, to about 70-80km. The best way to do this with aerobraking is to go from an Eve intercept and, Hy, I am sending a high speed probe to Jool (1y100d of travel) and I am planning to use the stock inflatable aero shield to aerobrake on the orbit of the planet. Big question is the height that I aim to do that without exploding my ship or being dragged by the gas giant. With aerobraking complete, additional manoeuvres will bring the craft into a near-circular two-hour orbit, about 400 km above the planet, by the end of April. The science instruments will be tested for several months from the new orbit. Share your thoughts, experiences and the tales behind the art.

The plan was to first perform an aerocapture into a high elliptic orbit around Eve, and then use successive aerobraking passes to lower the apoapsis into low Eve orbit. Because aerobraking calculations are still experimental, this multistep plan was safer than betting everything on a single aerobraking pass, for the parameters could be adjusted as the mission developed and calculations were I have never doen arobraking before in KSP, and I want to know if thier is any way to calculate how deep to get into the atmosphere, without falling to the planets surface. Aerobraking is a technique used by mission scientists to reduce the height of spacecraft orbits by allowing atmospheric drag to slow the spacecraft's velocity. Often the solar panels onboard orbiters can be used to maximize and control the amount of drag applied to the craft.

The Clarke maneuver is definitely aerocapture, not aerobraking. I suspect the Hienlein one too, but I have no copy of Space Cadet.

Aerobraking on Duna isn't worth it unless you're landing. The atmosphere is much too thin [wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com] to aerobrake at any sensible altitude. If you orbit low enough for it to make a difference, you may smack into a mountain. Aerobraking on Kerbin, Eve, and Jool is possible however.

Aerobraking Saves Cost and Mass A large, heavy spacecraft requires a large, expensive launch vehicle. When you enter Eve's sphere of influence you will almost certainly be travelling at escape velocity. If you have the fuel, simply burn retrograde at periapsis until you are in some kind of orbit. You can greatly reduce the amount of fuel required to achieve an orbit around Eve by aerobraking. Using a Delta-V deprived lander as an escape pod and using various tecnhiques to navigate and not-so-safely land on a life-supporting moon. I want to try to aerocapture the rescue craft, or at least use a bit of Eve's atmosphere to slow myself down and burn less fuel.

During an aerobraking maneuver, this can expose the unshielded side of the craft to immense atmospheric entry heat, leading to rapid catastrophic failure. Good Aerobraking altitude for EVE. Asked by Dingbat1967, October 9, 2013. Share Followers 0.

Strange you should mention it. I did some aerobraking around Eve last night. This is a very dark picture of my lander probe before the first pass. There were about 10 passes in total, starting at 82km, and ending at about 75km, after which I was no longer in orbit.

PE: 36000m Encounter 2020-08-27 Aerobraking is too tedious to make much of a plot device, especially since it makes most sense when the initial orbit is several days long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LouScheffer (talk • contribs) 22:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC) No, found the book, and it's aerobraking.
