Part of Fritz Hansen's "Poul Kjaerholm collection", the PK80 is characterized by its low height and distinguished aesthetic. The PK80 Daybed was designed by Kjaerholm in 1957 and is widely considered as one of his most sophisticated works of this period. Its striking proportions, the elegance of its materials and construction, and the beauty of the large welted leather mattress all come together to produce an iconic work and one of Kjaerholm's finest creations. The daybed is a clear illustration of Poul Kjærholm's method of refining historical models and distilling them down to the essence. The inspiration for the daybed came from Bauhaus, which in turn were inspired by ancient Roman couches. The purchase of the PK80 for the galleries of the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2004 recognizes the Classic PK80 daybed designed by Poul Kjærholm and manufactured by Fritz Hansen A/S. The very dark brown leather cushion is 3" thick and fits perfectly on the brushed stainless steel frame.
